Listen Now

I was so happy to connect with Dr. Pooja Lakshmin MD, a psychiatrist whose focus is on women’s mental health. Pooja is also a writer who is a frequent contributor to the New York Times and her book titled Real Self-Care: A Transformative Program for Redefining Wellness (Crystals, Cleanses, and Bubble Baths Not Included) was recently published! She is also the founder of Gemma, the first EdTech platform focused on women’s mental health, impact and equity. In this episode we talk about parental burnout.

We discuss:

  • The definition of burnout
  • How to recognize burnout in yourself or others
  • Why parental mental health is important
  • What to do if you’re struggling with burnout or difficult emotions such as grief

Everything posted is my opinion and doesn’t represent the opinion of my current or prior employer. All patient references in stories are fictionalized (new gender, different issue, etc) to protect privacy. Recommendations are made in a generic way intended for education. The ideas I have may not fit every child or every family. Parents should use their judgment and ask their own doctors if they feel something doesn’t make sense or may not be safe in their specific situation. I am not your child’s doctor, and this is not medical advice.
