The coronavirus vaccine and women’s health

So many parents are confused. The UK and Canada said pregnant and lactating people should not receive the coronavirus vaccine, whereas the FDA and the US government have left it up to individuals and their physicians. Choice is a wonderful thing! But choice can increase stress and put more responsibility on everyday people to understand the risks and benefits of the decision.

As always, I am looking to help individuals facing the choice to take the coronavirus vaccine. So, I posted on instagram in favor of women who are lactating getting the vaccine and Fiorella Valdesolo from Vogue reached out to interview me about other common questions family may have. It makes me feel even better about making these recommendations that American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Academy of Breastfeeding medicine have come out in support of COVID-19 vaccination in these populations too.

If you are in healthcare and denied access to the vaccine in the US due to pregnancy or lactation email news@mamadoctorjones.com .

If you are lactating and getting vaccinated and want to participate in a research study, email me and I’ll connect you with one going on in NYC.

Stay strong! The vaccine is such exciting news and a move in the right direction, but we still need to be safe and make it through these next few months. Hopefully when my kids are back in school I’ll add a vaccine chapter to my book.

Everything posted is my opinion and doesn’t represent the opinion of my current or prior employer. All patient references in stories are fictionalized (new gender, different issue, etc) to protect privacy. Recommendations are made in a generic way intended for education. The ideas I have may not fit every child or every family. Parents should use their judgment and ask their own doctors if they feel something doesn’t make sense or may not be safe in their specific situation. I am not your child’s doctor, and this is not medical advice.
