Holding the line: maintaining precautions to prevent a second wave

It’s only natural that as we inch towards resuming our normal lives we feel more and more comfortable and relax our precautions.

But the virus is still all over, and most people still haven’t had it. Even some who did may be at risk for a reinfection. So we have to keep our guard up by adhering to recommendations about masking, social distancing and hand hygiene.

This is a marathon, and it’s important to balance being cautious and responsible members of our community with not allowing fear to overwhelm us.

All patient references in stories are fictionalized (new gender, different issue, etc) to protect privacy. Recommendations are made in a generic way intended for education. The ideas I have may not fit every child or every family. Parents should use their judgment and ask their own doctors if they feel something doesn’t make sense or may not be safe in their specific situation.
