So, I wrote a book

This has been such a crazy time. Over and over I have heard from my friends on Instagram how hard it is. To have less childcare, to have more unknowns, to not be able to plan ahead, to be away from the ones you love, to be scared that high risked loved ones will get sick. So since February, I’ve been sharing advice in bits and pieces on Instagram about how to help navigate the pandemic.

It wasn’t until late June when I got around to sending out my first newsletter, when I saw just how much I had already written about the pandemic. And I started thinking, families need a resource. We all need help navigating this pandemic. While the news has kept us up to date, it’s in the business of sensationalism. Certainly the science is evolving and we’re still learning more, but by now the information families need to navigate these times is relatively set.

Then I started thinking why not write it myself. I have the knowledge of statistics and public health to interpret the literature. I have experience helping all different sort of families make decisions through my time as a pediatrician. I know more than the average doctor about children with complex medical needs and about how to approach schools. And I couldn’t let the idea go.

So it just poured out. I dictated parts. I pounded out chapter after chapter. And I wrote it in less than 3 weeks. Because it felt urgent to me, people need help now and if I can provide it I must do so. So here it is. Up for pre-sale. One more round of edits and I’ll send it out, hopefully August 1st.

I hope you’ll read it and I hope it will help make this time a little easier for you and your family. I can’t wait to hear what you think.

Everything posted is my opinion and doesn’t represent the opinion of my current or prior employer. All patient references in stories are fictionalized (new gender, different issue, etc) to protect privacy. Recommendations are made in a generic way intended for education. The ideas I have may not fit every child or every family. Parents should use their judgment and ask their own doctors if they feel something doesn’t make sense or may not be safe in their specific situation. I am not your child’s doctor, and this is not medical advice.
